Asbestos was used widely in British building until it was banned outright in 1999, so a home, garage or shed in Birchwood and Culcheth built or roofed before then may contain it. It is only a risk when disturbed, which is why breaking, drilling and pressure washing are the things to avoid.
What to do
Send photos from the ground with your postcode (WA3). A contractor looks at them, and a sample is only suggested if there is real doubt. Removal is then quoted in writing.
